HASSAD PROJECT OF JANA ON FULL BLAST
(Jubail, 25 June 2006)

JANA is implementing a backward integration project to manufacture Epichlorohydrin, main raw material for Epoxy resin. The project is called HASSAD.

The proposed plant will produce Epichlorohydrin (ECH) using Propylene, Oxygen and Chlorine as the major raw materials. The plant’s production capacity will be 30,000 metric tonnes per year (MTY) of Epichlorohydrin. The Epichlorohydrin produced at this facility will be used for JANA’s Epoxy plant, which is located at an adjacent site to that of the Epichlorohydrin plant. The balance will be transported through a pipeline to the King Fahd Industrial Port storage terminal for export.

A Chlor-alkali plant will be an integral part of the ECH facility. Chlorine production is mainly aimed at meeting the requirements of the ECH production. The Caustic soda produced in this plant will be used as a feedstock for NAMA’s Caustic soda prills plant (SODA) located in the Industrial area of Al-Jubail. Caustic soda production rate will be 50,000 MTY.

Calcium chloride is a by-products of the complex and will be sold to interested parties.
